Performing as “Wiener Blond” for seven years now, Verena Doublier and Sebastian Radon have been singing together despite the clichéd yet deceptive Viennese wine-induced merriness. Their compositions centre around their partly cutting, partly crazy lyrics. In doing so, they always flirt more with absurdity than with inscrutability, more with everyday life than with old-fashioned tavern romanticism. You could say they serve up a mélange of melancholy, melodies and the records office, although humour isn’t neglected either. When performing live, Wiener Blond only need a loop station, a guitar and a cajón drum. With their “Viennese Beatbox Pop”, both of them feel just as much at home in live clubs as they do on the country’s cabaret and theatre stages, all while bringing a breath of fresh air to the traditional Viennese music scene.
