At The Hotel

The Perfect Room

Redesigning the rooms is a very fulfilling, at times even meditative, experience. A little like wrapping presents for your nearest and dearest. There is everything from the walls to the drapes to consider, right down to all the little details that make a stay at the Kristiania so pleasant. I have designed the rooms so that they cocoon our guests in a sense of ease and well-being. Apart from the décor, though, there are a few other things that transform a room into a perfect guest room, whether at home or in a hotel:

Variety in the choice of covers, pillows and cushions to meet different needs is essential. A luggage stand is a welcome practicality to save you unpacking your case or bag on the floor or even on the bed. There should be plenty of hangers in the wardrobes. And because most people are unlikely to take slippers and a bathrobe with them on a short break, I always have a set for each of our guests in the bathroom.

My welcome greeting is an arrangement of fresh flowers, scented candles, something to read and a carafe of water with glasses on the bedside table. A charger and adapter in the room go without saying, as do a selection of fine toiletries, prettily wrapped soaps and an ample supply of towels.

Our yoga mat, complete with instructions for an après-ski workout, has recently caused something of a delighted stir among guests, but that is nothing compared to the excitement of our youngest guests when they discover the little gift waiting for them on their cosy bed.
