Lech, the cradle of modern skiing, is one of the world’s best-known ski regions. Yet it has kept the charm of a classical winter sports resort. Preservation of the natural landscape and village character are features which set Lech apart today from most other ski resorts. Although Lech keeps pace with the growing demands of its friends, it still knows how to preserve the charm of its original character.
Snow-making facilities in Lech am Arlberg
Lech is poised to provide visitors with another season of spectacular skiing and snowboarding. Each season the ski resort of Lech-Oberlech-Zürs continually invests millions of dollars to upgrade their plant infrastructures and to demonstrate their ongoing improvement strategy to make the Arlberg region “better not bigger. “
The Lech-Oberlech- Zürs snowmaking system will allow the region to have great snow regardless of the weather. There are 65 compressed air guns and 55 fan guns, as well as 210 snowing lances. Further, the ski lifts produce snow for about 850.000m³ each winter season. If all this snow was loaded into trucks, there would be a 700km long queue. What this means, is the maximum snowing capacity of all these installations adds up to 830 litres per second. The water is pumped with 64 bars and the compress air with 8 bars.
Lech owns the biggest compress air system in Austria. Snowmaking costs almost 6 million Euro per season and an exciting 3.5 million Euro is invested in snow management with snowcats.
Lech lifts have been making snow since 1973. When Mother Nature fails to create perfect conditions, the leader in snowmaking technology, Arlberg Jet’s tremendous array of snowmaking equipment is used. With the use of compressed air, electric and water machines prove that sustainability and luxury can co-exist.
